Gridlock: Her Style Plus

Body Positivity, Body Con, THE BODYSUIT!  The bodysuit has been a staple in trendsetters’ wardrobes for decades. For this week’s #TripleSlayFashion series, I am teaming up with Her-Style Plus to bring you #BodysuitGoals. The Her-Style Plus checkered bodysuit marks my first time wearing a bodysuit! I’ve always adored the look of bodysuits as they offer a sleek and polished look when paired with jeans, skirts, shorts, etc. Unfortunately, I’ve always found it challenging to find the right style of bodysuit that also fits well. [Insert Dramatic Pause] Then enters Her-Style Plus; offering the perfect bodysuit that gives me both style and fit.

The Bodysuit. Yall should know by now – if there’s color and/or bold patterns, I’m in! The Her-Style Plus checkered bodysuit is no exception to my style philosophy. I love this bodysuit because of its stunning black and white grid pattern; the bright white lines jumps off the onyx black bodysuit. The pattern reminds me of a grid created on a blackboard with white chalk. Although, I’m obsessed with the pattern, the fit was truly the selling point for me. I’m tall; at 5’10 and a 38C bra cup. I could never find a bodysuit that accommodated my height and size. The material is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. Generally speaking, I try to buy clothing with at least 5% spandex so they can hug all my curves! The material is very stretchy and breathable, therefore it makes the perfect winter to spring transition top.

Black & white is very classic, yet always so modern. For this look, I wanted to show you all how to mix patterns in the color way- black and white. I wanted to create a hip urban trendsetter look! I paired my bold black & white grid pattern bodysuit with a pair of black & white abstract horizontal striped joggers. If you do not own joggers, I encourage you to go buy a pair. If you are like me, you LOVE leggings (read as: you are addicted to leggings). Joggers can offer an updated/more put together leggings look. I LOVE wearing joggers with heels. For my shoes, I went with caged booties to mimic the grid pattern in my bodysuit. I closed out my look with an oversized green patent leather crocodile satchel.  Whenever you wear black & white, always add a vibrant pop of color via your accessories – shoes, purse, jewelry, etc. This look will definitely stop traffic, causing a true GRIDLOCK!

The creative direction behind this look was inspired by the black & white illustrations by fashion artist, Megan Hess. I’m pretty sure you have seen her illustrations across Instagram.  I love her work, because it showcases women as stylish mavericks doing typical tasks such as working, getting coffee, shopping, grabbing lunch with the girl squad, etc.
