Let’s be honest, I am not a big super hero type of gal, shoot, I don’t even like action movies like that lol (hashtag team horror, drama, and suspense movies). But, I am a true fashionista at heart, so throughout the entire Black Panther movie  I was sitting there obsessing over the vibrant and intricate fashion designs. What villain? A fight scene? Hidden messages? After returning from the movie, I read dozens of articles and videos, there weren’t many discussing the fashion, designs, or color themes of Black Panther. This lead me to the MOST pivotal question in the Black Panther pandemonium, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE FASHION? Ready to shop? I’ve selected items influenced by my Top 5 Fashion Moments of Black Panther. Comment below and let me know your favorite fashion moments.

Top 5 Fashion Moments of Black Panther

1. Okoye Walking Into The United Nations In Her Little Black Dress

In essence of Dylan from making the band I asked myself, who had the top 5 best fashion moments of Black Panther? The answer: Danai – Danai – Danai – Danai – Danai.  Danai Gurira who plays Okoye steals the entire movie with both the depth of her character and fashion. Since I couldn’t list her 5 times on my list, I settled for 2 style moments lol.  Okoye’s sleek and sophisticated little black dress look with adorned with her signature gold neck rings  and gold accent jewelry was striking.  I know every woman would love to this love, so I recreated it!

2. Erik KillMonger Debut In The Museum

First of all… when Michael B. Jordan just swaggered himself onto the screen with those locs, gold fronts, and jawline, I knew his role as Killmonger was going to be epic. His sheep fur trimmed denim, dark denim jeans, white t-shirt, combat boots, with the gold chains and circle frames gave me all types of Trap-Nerd vibes.

3. Okoye Stunning Red Dress in South Korea

My shero Okoyem is back with another slayage in a breathtaking red gown. She literally SNATCHES WIGS! Her battle scene is a graceful, yet furious waltz. At times it looks like she is floating. I love how this look represents elements of femininity and being a warrior!

4. T’Challa [Black Panther] and NaKia Have Arrived

When royalty enters the room, you take notice. We are not worthy of Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and T’Challah/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) melanin majestic. Nakia’s high slit T-strap dress with matching sleeves is spy-licious. T’Challa kept is classic with all black everything and a textured tuxedo coat. Did you know that director Ryan Coogler intentionally styled Okoye (RED), T’Challah/ Black Panther (BLACK), and Nakia (GREEN) to represent the pan-African flag?

5. QUEEN Ramonda

Queen Ramonda played by Angela Bassett  is the epitome of power, grace, and loyalty. Throughout the movie she is seen both traditional African culture and the most hi-tech of fashion technology available to the world.

6. Princess Shuri

Ok, so I may have cheated and added Princess Shuri, played by Letitia Wright. If you have watched black panther you know she steals your attention in every scene she is in. I loved her high neck mesh overlay and ruffle midi dress. In closing, the future is female. Drops mic.

Black Panther’s Vision Rooted In Fashion and Culture

Marvel Comic’s Black Panther movie phenomenon is captivating the world and literally leaving a gigantic cultural footprint. Black Panther was more than just  a super hero movie, it unapologetically highlighted blackness (African , African America, Black), powerful women, ancestral empowerment and secrets, and isms (socialism, racism, classism), etc. I love everything about the vision and direction of this movie. It was very clear they took into culture and futurism. I hope you go check out Black Panther!

“Our aesthetic was always to bring about positive visuals to the African diaspora in this country,” she says. “And to dispel stereotypes. To be about a forward-thinking community that empowered the Black community, women, and even natural hair.” – Ruth E. Carter
