Cocky Fresh: Her-Style Plus

I’m beyond excited to bring to you the second look in the Her-Style Plus #TripleSlayFashion series. If I’m being completely honest, I’m a little anxious to bring this look to you, because I’m stepping out of my personal comfort zone by pairing my Her-Style Plus bodysuit with a “unique” pencil skirt – and not just any pencil skirt, a  seafoam green pencil skirt with ROOSTERS all over it! I wanted to be a little more adventurous with my love for prints and patterns.  I deeply believe to my core that life is too short for you to NOT wear what YOU want to WEAR. In our society, we’ve been inundated with style rules and fashion dos and don’ts. So for today’s post,  I’m yelling in my greatest Plies voice… ain’t no style rules bihhhhh!!! There’s something about wearing a rooster skirt that makes you feel… “COCKY FRESH”.

First, let’s talk bodysuit. As you know from the Gridlock: Her-Style Plus post, I’m madly in love with my black and white grid print bodysuit. I love black and white stripes, squares, dots, etc. because in fashion they are viewed  as solids and can be paired with countless prints and/or colors. When mixing patterns/prints, I like to pair pieces that have a unified color and/or pattern. One detail that you may not be able notice is the print on the body of the rooster; it has black and white polka dots. The black & white grid pattern on the bodysuit ties into the black & white polka dots on the roosters’ bodies! This looks builds upon my new love for bodysuits. I love how smoothly the skirt lies on top of the bodysuit, given less bulk in the mid-section like other tops typically give.

Second, let’s talk skirt. The color of this skirt is stunning. In pictures the color comes off as sky blue, but in reality the color is more of a seafoam green. There are dozens of black & white polka dot roosters with a soft coral colored combs and wattles.  The skirt is very stretchy and hits perfectly just below my knee, just perfection.  It should be noted that the skirt is not completely opaque, but I actually love the fact that you can slightly see the pattern of the bodysuit. Why? Duhhhh, so I can show off the fact that I have on an amazing bodysuit!

The creative direction behind this look was inspired by old southern farms and chicken coops. When putting this look together, I imagined the print of the bodysuit to be the pattern of a chicken coop’s wired fence. I paired my look with black caged booties to tie into the caged/wired look.
