Brunch: Jibri High

Five letters J-I-B-R-I. My obsession with Jasmine Elder the founder and designer behind the plus size contemporary women’s label – JIBRI, can only be described as a “JIBRI HIGH”. As described on her site, “JIBRI is a perfect combination of high fashion and urban street sleek”.  Let that sink in a little (lol); that means when you walk into a room you will command the essence of beauty, style, femininity, and most importantly slayage. I don’t know how she does it, but somehow she has created a signature look that is is sooo bold yet made for every woman. I am so excited to bring you the “JIBRI HIGH” series!

You should know that my favorite color is PINK and one of my favorite things to wear in the whole wide world are SKIRTS. So when I saw this pink and tan houndstooth skater mini skirt, I knew it was destined to be. Here’s why I love this skirt: First, the fabric of this skirt is a textured suiting material, which is perfect for the fall and winter. Second, the color is an amazing peachy pink color  with a creamy tan houndstooth print, which is the perfect spring and summer color. Therefore, a skirt that I can transition from fall through summer and back around is a win!

With this look I wanted to create a sophisticated, yet powerful feminine look. My peachy pink skater mini has a “girly” aesthetic to it. From the color to the flow of the skirt, it’s just beautiful. I remember twirling around in Jibri’s showroom with this skirt on. I know she was like – “girl sit down” lol. Oh wait, I cannot forget about the high waist on this skirt. This skirt would be flattering on every body shape.

I decided to pair my skirt with this amazing blazer and thrift find from DivaXpress. As you know in my last post, Pattern Pride, I love mixing patterns and colors. My painter’s blazer has a very artistic vibe to it. I loved how the tan brush pattern popped against the deep navy blue. This look works because: First, in the rules of pattern and color mixing as long as you ground your look in one color and/or pattern you will create an amazing and memorable look. Here, my grounding color was that creamy tan color. Second, this look also played off of two similar prints in the skirt and blazer. I completed the look with a nude heel to not overwhelm all the prints and colors.

UPDATE:  As you know, I was going for the sophisticated, yet powerful feminine look. To me, this was the perfect brunch look. I decided to wear my amazing ensemble to The Curvy Fashionista’s Style Brunch. I was so dope yall… that the dopest of them all Phat Girl Fresh recognized my look and I won tickets to her LIFE STYLED event in May! In Atlanta? I hope to see you there!

The creative direction behind this look was inspired by a look from Rihanna. BadGirl RihRih paired a vibrant turquoise skater skirt with a artistic stripe and floral deep V blouse. I loved the contrast of girly and sexy.
